PROGRAM NOTES

Will-O’-The-Wisp is a work that depicts a peculiar atmospheric light that appears over lakes or ponds at night, however the title can also be interpreted as a non-mysterious light. Throughout people’s lives, they may see strange things at twilight or in darkness and interpret them in different ways.

As a young child, one might experience something in nature, such as an illuminating firefly or an animal sound, and associate it with something paranormal or science fiction. However, an adult, with more experience, may be able to realize or infer what the light was or find a more reasonable explanation than they would have as a child. In this way, the work aims to evoke how our perceptions of things change, particularly those which are not always clear at the surface.
