PROGRAM NOTES
For my piece, Imagination, I was inspired by existentialist and postmodernist literature, and one book that particularly inspired me was City of Glass, by Paul Auster. The idea that individuals perceive reality differently and that there are so many unanswered questions about our existence fascinates me. In life, everyone is eventually doomed to their own fate, so is there really a meaning behind anything? There is so much that humans are incapable of understanding; I wanted to blend existentialism and postmodernism in my piece by creating tonal ambiguity, dissonance, and a feeling of disorder. It lacks a clear structure and a feeling of continuity; where will your mind take you as you are listening to my piece?
